Burke is good IMO. My kid did well there with the small size in MS, but moved to a larger school for high school. Her small group of friends stayed and are still reportedly loving it.

Why Burke? They offer the same fee accommodations as any other mainstream private. Are you interested in progressive advocacy?

St. Andrew’s in Potomac sounds like a good fit, provided it’s not severe ADHD. Kind, nurturing community with kids who enjoy their sports. Many kids push themselves academically but it’s not a pressure cooker. There’s a bus from SS.

Terrible idea to make decisions about schools based on one comment on DCUM. I don't care what school is involved. You are negligent if you decide based on a single anecdote without visiting the school, talking with teachers and admissions staff as they will put you in touch with parents of students based on your particular concerns/questions.

SSFS parent here. Honestly, we’re a great fit for this sort of kid and you’ll find lots of similar peers. Strong math. Good support. Don’t count us out.

Similar child. As pants we love SAAS - child preferred other options; consider relocating as we did north of Baltimore City in Balt. County. Very happy with Loyola Blakefield. Or make a big better-quality-of-life move out of DVM.

We live near downtown Silver Spring. DS is kind, strong in math, ADHD, and loves basketball and baseball but not a superstar athlete. Starts 6th grade fall 2027. So far we’re considering SSFS (if it remains financially stable) and St. Anselms, possibly Burke. Would also consider MCPS Takoma Park magnet if he’s lucky enough to get a lottery spot.

Thoughts or other schools to consider?
