None of that will matter if you don’t take away phones.

I agree these laptops have ruined school for elementary/middle school. Bring back textboooks, written matter, and interactive work.

More like a therapist and family counselor. How did you let this happen?

Everyone knows how addictive and distracting these devices are. I remember kids wasting time on the computers in the school library back in the 90s / early 2000s. Yes, he needs to learn some self-control, but the current environment makes it extremely difficult to learn those skills. There’s a reason they don’t set up drug rehab programs in Kensington…

Kids are on the laptops all day in middle school. The go into middle school innocent and then their friends tell them about game websites available without being blocked and from there I’m guessing they learn how to go to sites without being detected (do not on light speed). Do you think no trouble would come from giving teens laptops (unrestricted internet work around) with their friends and lots of free time in the classroom. Teachers don’t usually care about them being on their laptops and don’t police it. I know they watch movies in class on their laptops and apparently watch porn too! We do t needs therapists but we do need to stop giving these kids unsupervised access to the whole internet!

Yes they are. They’re able to bypass the websites schools block by using Chrome Sign-in. Also masterlists of unblocked websites and proxies and workarounds are constantly being shared. I’m a middle school teacher and have caught boys watching porn in class. Parents and teachers need to lobby against FCPS giving middle schoolers laptops.

Set up your home router to use OpenDNS Family Shield for it's DNS servers. The kids probably don't have admin rights to change the DNS on their school laptops so it might be enough. You can manually change the DNS servers back on your own devices if you want to access adult / gambling / whatever sites blocked by the family shield.

Now if your kid has a phone all bets are off. They can get off wifi and avoid your network restrictions altogether. The phone carriers do usually have a family filtering service you can set up, and so do Apple and Google phones. You'll have to research based on what devices your family uses.

He can do his homework in a public space. You can also setup your home network to block porn using DNS Filters.

They continually pass around proxies to get to unfiltered web.

Yes, students have found ways to bypass the Lightspeed filtering system. IT has been made aware and has supposedly passed the information on to Lightspeed for them to fix.

Are there workarounds so kids can watch porn on their school issued laptops? I have a sneaking suspicion my kid has been but it doesn’t show up in light speed.
