This is what happens when you prioritize mediocre rich (white) kids for the handful of slots you have open that do not go to the perfect SAT and 10 perfect AP score kids.
Harvard used to be open to LMC and MC kids that knew how to hustle and had the foundational life skills and drive to make the best use of a top degree in some field other than management consulting or finance. However, those kids don’t have daddy money, don’t play polo, can’t afford to do an unpaid desk internship in war torn Africa to look “well balanced”, don’t have legacy connections, and don’t have five figure “college consultants” on retainer to write their essays for them. And they don’t have the test scores of the Asian kids. So they don’t get in, and the US falls behind.
