Close to impossible. Potomac is the only K-12 in McLean/ Tysons/ Great Falls/ Falls Church area. Unlike DC and MD schools which have competition from schools around them , Potomac has none. Because they are the only game in town, they serve a lot of special interests. You’ll need a lot of connections and a superstar student

Sidwell is 59-60k for MS & HS, Potomac is 52-53k for MS & HS. 10% is noticeable to people who pay full tuition but aren’t rolling in money.

Not to get into the "big 3" debate but Potomac is probably more selective than at least a couple of schools on that list.

You have a better chance if you live in DC rather than VA.

If you're at a top private K-8, it can be very difficult. If you're also a sibling or a huge donor, it's easier but not a slam-dunk. If you're not from a top private, then its very very difficult.

It’s impossible. The spots they are filling in entry years are all going to siblings, kids of faculty, or people with enormous connections. That leaves 2-3 spots and they are all going to the exact demographic need that they need to fill.

It’s very, very competitive. Make sure you have a backup, or are happy with your local public. Some of the top students from DC’s k-8 were denied/terminally waitlisted for 9th in the past.

I know 4th, 7th and 9th grades are entry years. How hard is it to get in?
