Agreed. OP, "yet" in your op is confusing. Are you trying to get those responsibilities, or are you already designated to be taking them on soon?

Weird choice of words from the manager. As PPs have said, carry on but find a sweet spot where you dial back the perceived energy. Don’t dial back your actions but see if you can reframe.

NP, but this is the vibe I’m picking up, too. This person feels threatened. I had a colleague like this, too, and I found the best course of action was to carry on despite him. He was testing me to see if he could intimidate me. He quickly learned he couldn’t and has backed down, at least to my face.
