I didn’t think seeing my kid walk across the stage would mean that much to him or/and us, but in hindsight it was a great day even if crowded and boring and lots of traffic. He felt proud to be done and moving onto a new chapter. It gave a nice sense of closure.

One of my kids attended HS graduation and the other skipped it. We were all fine with both choices. I did make the non-attending kid take photos with us with his gown on, though!

My 2020 grad still cares but it likely because that class missed out on so much and it was not a choice. If you and your kids prefer to be at the beach...do that!

Is college in their plans? If not, they may want to go. Millimg around with their friends for pictures is really fun.

DD does not want to go do that is fine. I expect younger DD will want to go which is also fine.

Having gone through one high school graduation for my oldest, I find the speeches mind-numbingly boring but I still want to be bored for hours, just for the sake of seeing my kid walk on stage. My children are of the same mind.

Kids was disappointed but a few days later didn't care. Still could care less 5 years later

OP, just really talk your kid through it. I completely get that some kids won't care. I think there are others who in January think they won't care, but when May rolls around and folks start talking about it, they might have second thoughts. If you've already locked in travel plans, that could get tough.

Maybe you will regret it. Or maybe not. Think back to your own ceremonies. Do you remember them?

Kid does not care and ceremony is right in middle of one of few times we can go on vacation. Anyone done this? Will we regret it?
