Two part problem. A. Not finding friends who can be nice. B. Not finding a man who is willing to commit. DC seems to be the problem in OP's mind.

In the past month, I’ve talked to four absolutely wonderful mid 20s women. I’m mid 40s, these women are babysitters to my kids, or their friends, or grad students in a seminar I teach. My impression is that this generation is empathetic, educated, articulate, thoughtful.
I also have a mid 20s man on my team at work and he’s a great guy, with a very down to earth girlfriend.

As a “xennial” i also remember when people used to bash millennials, and it had nothing to do with reality.

In short, I suspect the purpose of your post is to stir the pot.

How would that work? Other same-age women are gatekeepers-keeping men? I don’t understand the question.

To your general inquiry, OP, there’s nothing DC specific about this. I would say it is generation specific. (I’m Gen X so take that for what you will). It’s also indicative of any East Coast city that attracts high strung, high achieving people. I would definitely expand your social circle if you’re running into too many of this type, I agree they’re no fun. Also, the guys that you’re meeting shouldn’t really have anything to do with this, especially if you’re on OLD.
