That's definitely an old wives' tale, I was 105 pounds and 5'4ish when I graduated high school. (I was not dieting, I am small boned).

My daughter is still not that weight (5'2) and started menstruating 18 months ago, I think. She is almost 13.

She's underweight. From where I come from, there's an old wives tale that girls start menstruating when they're at about 110 lbs (50 kg). Not sure how it relates to height though. I personally started at that weight, so I remember.

+1

Also if she is an athlete that may have an effect.

If she is an activity where thinness is a benefit (i.e. ballet, figure skating) make sure she eats properly and avoids talk that promotes excessive thinness

She’s underweight. That’s why she’s not getting it.

I’m a 5’1 grown woman, and was 95lbs as a teen, and appeared too thin. Now, I’m at around 105lb. She’s basically underweight. She needs to gain atleast 10, maybe 15 pounds, being underweight isn’t healthy.

One possible concern is how slender she is. Estrogen levels are affected by body fat and it could be that she needs to fill out some more before her body is ready to start her period. I'm not saying you need to fatten her up. It's likely her weight will even out on its own once she is close to her final height.

+1 this. I thought you needed to be at least 100 lbs.

For reference, I was very underweight and I didn’t get my period until I was almost 16. I thought something was wrong with me and was very worried at the time. Your pedi can reassure your DD that she is normal.

Her weight seems very low. I was that weight and two inches shorter with barely any body fat other than c cup boobs. Was a swimmer & gymnast until about 12 did not start period until about 13.5 years old.

Not really, but gaining a few pounds might help.

No worries, but you can ask the ped at the check-up. There's a rating scale they use and they will explain it to you: the Tanner Scale. You can look it up yourself, actually.

My DD got her period at 15 (normal weight). I got it at 14 (normal weight). My mother got hers at 17 (she has been underweight her whole life).

My 14 year old DD still has not started menstruating. I started a little before 11, my sister around 12, mom around 12. Don't know about anyone in my husband's family (he doesn't know. No sister so only mother as direct female relative).

I was thinking my kids were both late bloomers but my 12.5 year old just got hers, right when I would expect.

Physically, she otherwise seems to be developing normally. About 5'3, 95lbs, transitioned out of training bras... Has hips.

Her checkup is in about a month and I'm wondering if there is anything I should ask about.
