In terms of academics, Union is particularly strong for the popular major of psychology.

I know 4-5 successful, kind, well-adjusted middle aged adults in a variety of careers who went there. FOr what that's worth.

If you knew much about the history of Union, you might consider this with less flippancy. At one point, Union may have been one of the four most prominent colleges in the entire country. Hints of this era can be seen in its carefully planned campus layout and in the boldness of some of its existing architecture.

this is delusional

Even if you don’t know much about the history of American colleges, you should at least be able to recognize verisimilitude. — DP

I've no connection to Union. However, I do read a bit.

Ironically it was one of the original NESCAC schools. Left the conference in one of the dumbest moves ever in college athletics history.

My son was accepted there for engineering - great merit and it is well respected for engineering. I would compare to Lehigh, Lafayette, Rochester, etc.

I had never heard of it until a high achieving child of an academic we know chose to go there. I would consider taking my kid there to visit if I knew they were for certain interested in engineering.

A too-hidden gem, Union does not seem to get the same attention as Lafayette, Lehigh, or other schools offering strong liberal arts alongside engineering. Great merit aid, an invested alumni network, and an excellent education makes me wish it got more attention than it gets. Maybe it is the Schenectady location or the "U" placement in alphabetically-organized "best of" guides, I think it punches above its weight. But I am just one of thousands of college counselors that still encourages students to explore liberal arts colleges when they tend to be more interested in large (southern) universities. I get it, but for students who are looking for great mentors, invested professors, and a chance to explore, I would love to see schools like Union on their lists.

Union's science facilities are among the nicest I've seen, and receive recognition in this site:
