We’ve done Sun realty several times and not had the issues mentioned upthread. They do seem to have cheaper options, so maybe there is a correlation there

We used vrbo and Airbnb, you can save money booking directly but then the extra guest protection and refund policies get removed

For example Airbnb has a hurricane policy that gets you a refund a local company it's up to whatever they decide.

Search on VRBO and then book through the realty company directly to avoid the extra VRBO fees. They all advertise on VRBO now.

Twiddy has a ton of homes. We use Beach Realty because one year we biked past a house we thought we’d want to rent and that was their management company. We’ve been at that house for a few years and been very happy with Beach but prior we were happy with Twiddy.

I couldn't afford the houses on Twiddy. We just needed a small house close to the beach for under $8K. I've used most of the reality companies but my favorite has been Cola Vaughan Realty.

Yes, one of the big local realty companies. We’ve used Brindley several times and been happy.

There are a few big realtor groups that control most of the market. Some advertise on air b and b (don't book there, just extra fees). If you know the area you want to be in, often there are one or two big realtors in that particular area.

Avoid sun reality they do not clean well at all. The last few rentals were nasty Im taking dead flies and black crap coming out of vent, mold issues, and yes hidden cameras.

Asking for the 2026 summer season. What's the best way to find a rental? Asking on my neighborhood FB group, OBX realtor sites, etc?
