Interestingly, my 8th grade son was similar last year, except higher fevers. He was tested for Covid flu strep and mono and it turned out to be walking pneumonia. The weird thing was he was not heavily congested. Exhausted and fevered. One day I fed him soup in bed and other than bathroom, first time he got up was 7pm!

He is usually very quickly over viruses, but he was sick with that.

Started with a runny nose followed by fevers that rise overnight but are easily managed with Tylenol.

Body aches are tolerable (not like a wicked flu).

Not much of an appetite.

Chief complaint is feeling exhausted. He only leaves his room to use the bathroom. Finally showered last night after 3 days, and thought he was turning the corner, but spiked a fever overnight and has been sleeping all day (it’s nearly noon and he hasn’t left his room yet).

Covid test was negative. No sore throat or cough. Just really tired, fever comes and goes, and some body aches/headache.

Is this that virus that isn’t covid/flu/bacterial that is going around?

exact same symptoms to the t. only diff is i had no runny nose.

You don't always get a sore throat with mono. Take him for a test.

He doesn’t have a sore throat, etc. so I’m not sure about mono.

And he’s not that lethargic.

My older son had mono years ago and it was different.

I know several people who had this in the fall 2025. It's unknown, but fatigue was the main symptom but it was only a week or so. Mono goes on longer.
