She definitely has expertise in dyslexia. I thought she had great ideas about how to gamify learning to get my kid engaged. I also thought she gave extremely helpful reports after each session about what my kid was doing (or not doing). I can't say what the results would have been, because they didn't meet very long or as often as my kid probably needed, but my kid has seen at least six tutors over the last five years in reading, and I was impressed. My kid has a moderate dyslexia diagnosis and inattentive ADHD and also has weaknesses in reading comprehension. At the time, did not have the ADHD diagnosis yet and was not medicated.

I would love more info from the person who posted Ms. Schroeder. It looks like she was a math teacher at the Lab School. Does she have expertise in reading/dyslexia? What did you like about her?

We've since switch to ASDEC, we are still in the first 6 months so too soon to tell but my daughter isn't falling further behind as she was in the past so its an improvement at this point. We did the summer ASDEC program to get matched with a tutor after spending a year on the wait list.

May I ask where are summer ASDEC program I need person? Montgomery county?

There are two summer program locations usually, one in Rockville and one in NoVa...Fairfax maybe? The summer program is great because it is a real jump start, and you get a therapist. But you also don't need to wait. There are therapists with availability - it sometimes is hard to get matched up with location and affordability, but if you are open to online (not an option for all kids, for sure) you should be able to get matched quickly.

Any link for Rockville one please?

In-person OG certified tutors are scarce based on the demand in this area. Even if you don’t go through LAB’s program getting a certified tutor who has availability may be difficult. Although if you are willing to pay a significant premium and have a flexible schedule you may have better luck than we did.

same. this person taught my third grader who wasn't reading AT ALL to read. He used the Wilson program. I emailed people on the lab list and he was the first one who responded that he had availability. I doubt he was certified OG. Maybe Wilson certified and OG trained? I think he was a former lab teacher? A lot of money but within a school year my child was reading chapter books independently. I wouldn't get hung up on training vs. certification

Can you provide contact info or a link! Thank you!!!

We're looking for tutoring for our daughter who was recently diagnosed with dyslexia. Has anyone worked with the lab school SLPs? Per my communication with them, they are all "trained" in the Orton Gillingham method, but it doesn't appear that they have any certifications ("trained" could mean anything from an intensive certification to a 1 hour course).

I'd love to hear from others who have used their services (or from people who have suggestions for providers in/near DC). Have they helped your kid?

Thanks!
