I’m single and asked a friend. I did it on a Monday so prep was on a Sunday but it was fine, I could have worked the day before. Don’t you have friends?

This is bad advice. Do not do this. You don't want to go through all the prep and then show up and have them refuse to do the procedure because you dont have anyone to pick you up.

Let me know if you are in the DC area and you find out! I tried really hard to find medical transport home from my colonoscopy for my first one but finally asked a friend. It's really hard to ask a friend to take sick leave for a friend, though. It's weird - you'd think there'd be a market for this. Try calling the doctor's office and asking.

The people waiting at the bus stop haven't had anesthesia. They are with it, not under the influence, and can be safely expected to manage themselves.

And I don't know what to tell you about the will power. Lock the fridge if you need to.

Both DH and I have provided transport and care for friends who had medical procedures and needed assistance.

I recommend working the day before because if you don't have anything to do, you're just going to sit around thinking about food and being hungry. Work is a good distraction.

I scheduled one without anasthesia. I know lots of people will be shocked - shocked! - but, if you can find a doctor willing to do the procedure that way, and you don't mind some brief occurances of discomfort (yes, there is some), then that is a possibility.

Ask a friend or acquittance. If you truly have no one, speak to your doctor and they will help you arrange a suitable ride.

The no-eating isn't that bad. Get jello to have something you can chew (no red or blue, but green is OK). You can also drink water and broth to help feel fuller.

Have to laugh. When I read the thread title, I thought that it referred to a do-it-yourself procedure.

I'm single and just asked a friend to pick me up. I scheduled around her availability.

I was reading the directions and it says that they won't allow you to leave with a taxi or uber or taking the bus or whatever. How do people do this if they don't have anyone that can pick them up? This seems so odd to me since i see hospitals discharging people from the ER that just are sitting on the bus stop bench waiting for a bus.

I'm also really concerned about not eating the day before. I don't think I'll be able to work since I can't eat, so I think I'll need to take 2 full days off work. I'm really not sure how I can get through a day without eating. I don't have very good will power and have literally never done this in my life -- I used to try for religious reasons and was never able to get past about noon.
