Both my DH and I scroll while we watch TV, sitting together. If we see something funny we share with the other one. I can't imagine him policing what I do in the way that you describe. If the volume is bothering you, perhaps you can tell her to go to another room or turn it off. Other than that, you have no right to police your wife's scrolling.

We ran into this recently. We committed to no Instagram on phones (desktop computer only) last year. I was way too addicted and my 8 year old daughter was noticing.

I purposely only have real friends as friends on social media. I don’t follow acquaintances or people I barely know. I do enjoy seeing my friends vacations and what they are up to.

My husband and I both scroll our phones at night before bed. I think most adults do this? Sometimes a movie or news may be on or mostly the tv is just off.

We are very rarely watching tv, but when we are, we're talking with the kids on and off about what we're watching. No phones during meals or at the table. Maybe scrolling social media while waiting for kids to finish a sport (but no sound bc there are others around) but never while sitting with them.

I don’t think it’s just social media. Phones, laptops, video games, tv….all screen activities that take you out of the present moment and reduce interactions with others. (Unless you are playing a game together).

You have to talk to her and decide for your home how much engagement you want with each other and when. And when and how much time on a screen works for your family.
