That’s my opinion based on my preferences - it’s completely subjective. Where will he live after? What kind of campus experience does he want? Pepperdine is beautiful but it’s more isolated. There was another Miami-Pepperdine thread recently that I had lots of good info.

I agree with this.

Also, you should know that Pepperdine is openly Evangelical. There are prayer meetings held en masse on campus, outside so you can't avoid them.

Pepperdine is also #84 rank, nationally. Miami depending on source is between #49-64

St Andrews is in a whole different league.

St Andrews is a back up for Americans who can't get into elite schools in the USA.

So it's definitely the best option as neither of the other two are close to being elite

So you are agreeing you would select St Andrews vs Miami or Pepperdine?

If you don't mind the travel, I agree that St Andrews is a different league academically vs Miami or Pepperdine for the two subjects mentioned here, specially IR.

UMiami. I see the appeal of these 3 schools to the same kid but UMiami is the goldilocks among them. Plus easy back and forth for everyone.

DS toured both. Fell in love with both for different reasons. He cant decide.
Got in Miami Herbert and Pepperdine Int Business program. But also interested in both of their International Studies Major.
He likes Pepperdine Study Abroad program better, but feels like Miami is a better business school.
He understands the small “concervative and religious”bias at Pepperdine and he is not worried about it having been at a Christian school his whole life. He has friends at both schools and they are all telling him what he wants to hear.

Anyone here with experience having kids at either school?

He is also waiting for U of St Andrews but not sure he will get in. SAT 1470, GPA 3.82/4 UW.

Which Miami? The one in Ohio was a university when Florida belonged to Spain.

Herbert Business school is UMiami.

I second poster re Miami ED. If OP’s son already in at Miami then they’re ED and are committed to going there. So OP is either lying or troll.

I strongly disagree- at least about Miami. My son found the students at Miami to be very focused, engaged, and motivated— I think the previous poster is focused on the reputation of the past.

Since money is not an issue, he is targeting the right schools.

Some might make a saints versus sinners argument, but I know too many Pepperdine alums to buy that line.

Interesting that he is conflicted as the two schools offer extremely different environments/campus cultures. Since he has attended Christian schools his entire life thus far, Pepperdine might be the more comfortable option.

Only experience at Miami, but my DS had an amazing four years just graduated and has a good job in NY. Miami also has a decent amount of diversity and active political groups on both sides.

Only ED for Miami has been released. EA comes out later this month. So how could OP’s kid already be in Miami other than ED?!
