How large is your bathroom? Sq ft?

If you want this job done cheaply but well, YOU need to choose the tile, fixtures, grout color, etc. and buy it yourself. This may sound daunting, but it’s not. Keep things simple. Find a picture you like and reproduce it with Lowe’s material. Don’t go to a fancy tile company.

Also, you need to find an independent contractor. If you use a flashy design/build company, they have tons of overhead and the same job will cost $10-$15k. That’s because the salesperson gets a commission, there’s lots of overhead (storefront, etc), and they subcontract the work, so their profit is a margin on top of the subcontractors charge.

this sounds about right. $25K is still a lot.

$25k is not the number. You’re playing to the high-end of exotic tile estimates.

We recently did this and it cost us $5k. The numbers broke down this way:

Demo bathtub and old tile wall and build a new shower stall with niche, including all building parts and complete job/tile/fixture labor: $3k

Polished Porcelain marble-look 12x24” tile from Lowes for walls: $250

Polished porcelain mosaic tile from Lowes: $150

Kohler shower fixtures from Lowes: $250

Glass door partition and sliding glass door with handle and towel bar, installed from Dulles Glass: $1000

I think it is foolhardy to take out tubs. If you look at high end homes (I watch too much Selling Sunset, Selling the OC etc), they have tubs.

We paid 15K in 2020 for a whole bathroom renovation with polished tile.

I’m in the middle of a bathroom remodel right now. We’re taking out a tub/shower combination and installing a shower only. Also replacing vanity, flooring, lighting, and bathroom fan. Cost is $19k.

Note: Using porcelain tile for shower walls/shower floors and bathroom floor.

If you use the same drain for the shower as the bathtub you should be able to do it for 3k.

It shouldn’t cost that much but contractors have become used to charging an arm, leg and your firstborn for even routine jobs.

It shouldn’t cost that much. Tile isn’t that expensive. Maybe $10K. We did full bathroom gut for $25K.

Looking at a house where it seems like the developer ran out of $ and installed bathtubs in lieu of showers. Someone said they think it would be about $30k to put in a bathtub. Thoughts on this? It seems like part of the plumbing is there due to tub but hearing tile is currently expensive.
