Northern Spain is not warm. One issue is that the NW coast is very rainy though so you could go there and end up with no visibility. A lot of people are going to Leon or Burgos. From there you could go to San Sebastián which is glorious. There are extensive website discussing microweather patterns across central Spain in connection with the eclipse.. I was trying to figure it out but there was a lot of discussion about plains and mesas and cloud cover and I sort of gave up.

Those of you suggesting Bavaria… when is a good time? We’re into hiking and beer.

I mean it will be warm, but there's a total eclipse running through Spain in August. If I wasn't due to have a baby in July, I'd be there.

We are going to northern Spain. San Sebastián and Asturias + Galicia regions.

As long as you know that everywhere will be overcrowded and busy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany are all good suggestions. Denmark and Scandinavia, Estonia are other suggestions.

Agreed. If you have time, take a train from Munich to Innsbruck then to Verona/Lake Garda.

DH and I are in the early planning stages for our next European trip. Please help us narrow down our options! Requirements:

*must be in July or August because I'm a teacher and that's the slow season for his business
*not terribly hot - we can visit those places when I retire in a few years and can visit in the off-season
*not prone to wildfires
*castles and other historical sights are a priority
*wide variety of food available (I hate to admit it, but I'm picky)

Looking forward to your ideas and recommendations.
