Doesn't have to be Blundstones but something like that or The NorthFace or Timberland waterproof any waterproof boot that is warm and comfy works.

Most kids wear boots there.

I had never heard of it before, but happened to walk by the Blundstone boutique in SoHo last week. The store was crowded, maybe because it was the day before anticipated snow. DS did NOT like them. I tried on a pair, and had to have another person pull them off because they were so stiff. I've had better Chelsea boots (dressy vs cozy) before.

My son who attends school in New England is into fashion/style and got himself a pair of classic Timberland waterproof "premium" boots.

I went to college in Boston and did not "need" snow boots back in the day being an urbanite, but I see the benefit now.

Maine is a whole other beast, so something easy to slip on/off from LL Bean, North Face, or even Uggs might be useful for your son especially for slush.

My Maine college kid has LL Bean boots for snow, he has used them plenty during his 3.5 years so far. The Maine snow typically begins just before they break for the holidays but Jan-March is a pretty steady tempo of snow events so it's great to have something reliable and durable.

Mine loves his Blundstones too. Great boots, waterproof, good traction and not too heavy

Yes. In wet, cold weather he will want something that isn’t sneakers. I love Blundstones, but if he doesn’t like the style, find something he likes so he wears them.

My dd lives in her Blundstones - when we first got them I thought they would last all four years. Now midway through her second, she wears them so hard that I will probably insist she get a new pair next year. She's home for break now and even though we have no snow, she is still wearing them all the time because she loves them. She got a pair of Goretex Uggs for Christmas (not from us) that she thought about returning, but I suggested she keep them just to have a second pair of boots. I bet those will last her for years because she will revert back to the Blundies 9/10 times. In addition to be absolutely weather proof, they have excellent tread, are comfortable, and she finds them aesthetically appealing.

Yes. She didn't think she did because she never needed them in high school, but after the first snow, when shockingly (when you're used to mcps) there were still classes, she agreed she needed them.

This is a dumb question. If there's snow obviously you need boots.

Yes, and Blundstones are the right brand.

My Maine college freshman son got Blundstone boots for Christmas but is unsure if they need them and they were $$.
The town typically gets 70 inches of snow each winter.
They're pull on boots and otherwise the kid will just be wearing normal footwear like sneakers.


Thoughts? I went to school in Florida so this is way out of the realm of my college experience.
My freshman son does not have an opinion.
