That’s pretty standard at a large practice. It allows their doctors to have predictable schedules. They will probably rotate you through many doctors and midwives to increase the likelihood that you have met the person who delivers your baby. I didn’t like being rotated, and unfortunately I hadn’t met the person who delivered my first, but it was fine. For my second pregnancy I looked for a solo practitioner, but had a hard time finding one who was taking new patients and took my insurance. I ended up staying at my old OB practice because it was convenient. It was more important to me to have consistent prenatal care, so I found a practitioner I liked and saw her exclusively, refusing to be rotated. She did not deliver my second baby - again, total stranger did - but it was fine.

If it is really important to you to have someone you know there, consider hiring a doula to be your support person.

I am 38, pregnant for the first so navigating everthing related to pregnancy for the very first time. I am currently receiving pre natal care at Capital Women Care and have been happy with the ObGyns so far (some better than others) but I don't love the idea of not being sure who will be there during the birth since the way they explained ObGyns rotate at the hospital and you will get whoever is on schedule that day.
I am not from the US, so perhaps this is the case in all practices, and you just can´t guarantee who will be there for the birth.
But I wanted to check here and see if anyone has had different experiences in the DMV area? If so, is there any ObGyn or practice you would recommend that will mean we will have a set Dr assigned for the birth?
We are living in Silver Spring so anything in DC or Montgomery county in MD works!
