These are not cysts, the OP says. There is a very clear difference between a cyst and a non-cyst on US.

This is very stressful, there are different degrees of birads 4, I think a, b and c. I don’t remember which letter I had, but I was some kind of birads 4, and it ended up not being cancer (although I later did develop breast cancer in a different spot). Hoping for good news for you, OP. I’m glad you’re being diligent and following up.

I had my diagnostic ultrasound and it was still there. Radiologist came to check it after the tech and noted it down as a Birads 4 and I have an ultrasound guided biopsy scheduled. She said it could go either way when I asked her to be honest with me and said it was definitely not a cyst. I hope it's a fibroadenoma but given all my health issues the last year, not feeling too good about this. I'm scared.

I just had this exact thing happen to me and it was a fibroadenoma (two of them, actually). The radiologist who did the biopsy said that there were things about how the masses responded to her efforts to hit them with the biopsy needle that helped her feel pretty certain of this, even before the biopsies were back. (I could also see it on the US screen—very helpful.) Hopefully it will be the exact same for you.

Praying all is well with your biopsy OP! Hang in there, understand your fear but hoping for the best and glad you are getting it further checked out! Keep us posted. Hang in there.

Ultrasounds can vary based on the experience and technique of the technician. OP here. No radiologist on site today. Their diagnostic schedule is pushed out until Feb.

Usually you do mammograms and then get a callback for an ultrasound or repeat mammogram. I'm not sure why I am getting an ultrasound callback for an ultrasound - the tech could have taken more pictures? This was at a location I normally do not go to within the same network. I remember the previous techs spending a bit of time with bilateral complete ultrasounds but this tech just did it so quick. I had also mentioned that I had a cyst in that area in my last scan.

OP - they did both the mammogram and the bilateral u/s screening and then this report.

Mammogram says no malignancy detected but ultrasound part of it says to come back which is why I am confused why they did not focus better in that area when there was a history of cysts.

I have dense breasts and previously there were cysts in both breasts. I went for annual screening (mammo and u/s because of the dense breast) and the report says recommended u/s again since the margins are indistinct - the position in that breast was 2 '0 clock for the cyst from a year ago and now it is 1 o clock - no mention of the previous cyst. After last year they released me from diagnostic to screening.

What does this mean - could it be the same thing and just a technologist measuring it differently?

If they knew there was a cyst in that area earlier, couldn't the technologist do the high resolution u/s to focus better so the radiologist can compare, instead of calling me back?

I'm confused.
