I was surprised as well when I applied I assume $300k would be normal senior individual contributor total comp. For almost any corporate role. I think I saw in news that poverty line in major metros should be $140k, so thats way low comp for big tech to earn the same as Fed

Im not a software engineer so salaries are not as high. is you DC in Seattle and L6?

Feel like I am a top performer (but who doesn’t) but I have no desire to work anywhere that is culling 15% or whatever of the workforce every year. I mean the politics alone must be a nightmare.

AWS chews people up and spits them out. The only reason to move is the money. If they’re not giving you the money walk away. Let someone who actually lost their job deal with that mess.

In case, I am not clear, I am comparing total comp at both roles, including stock grants and pension.

I am currently a Federal employee and in the running for a job at Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is an important and growing part of the company.

However, the pay for this position would only be a lateral move, and it’s in a different city. I had hoped for a salary increase of at least 20%, so this role may not be the right fit for me, even though I'm excited about the opportunity.

I have a few more rounds of interviews scheduled. Should I:

Cancel all interviews?
Speak with the hiring manager to see if there’s any flexibility on salary or if there are other roles I might qualify for? This would only involve a single interview.

I believe I should step away from the four-hour interview round, though.
