GA? At our school most of JV is rec players on the girls side. Its really easy to make a team as any kind of decent player. Boys side is ridiculous.

It really stinks how uneven it is for boys vs. girls. So much easier to make a girls HS team.

My ds plays for Oakton and they only took 7-8 players on JV last year from 9th grade. Over 100 boys tried out. Tough odds for the non GKs.

If your ds plays ECNL or similar level he should have a good shot though.

How would a parent know about an interest meeting? I read the emails from the principal every week and don't remember ever seeing something like that mentioned.

Sometimes it is on the sport’s homepage or posted near the athletic office but usually the kids ask around to try and find out the info. Our kids were always the ones who told us when and where tryouts and team related things were happening. Our kids went to green days in the fall for their spring sports and found out about them by asking other kids.

Again, it really depends on the school and coach. The more competitive school the less of a chance your freshman will make it.

How many boys tried out?

They may be posted on the team IG account.

The bigger the school, the less they really want kids to know about meetings and tryouts and green days.

Our school posted it in the newsletter. It is also on the school website and promoted on social media.

A lot depends on the coaches TBH. Our school take about half the JV team as freshmen and doesn't usually have any juniors.

Some other schools we play, the coaches put a lot of juniors on JV which takes spots away from freshman. And honestly, its hard to compete physically with a junior as a freshman.

Do they start on February 23?

What are the tryouts like at a big school for boys? How many freshman will the coach take on JV? Will they cut kids after the first day? Our school doesn't seem to have green days for boys soccer like they do for other sports.
