I don’t know the frequency of revocations, but dropping a class without informing the school does create uncertainty best avoided.
My DS applied to schools predominately in the 30 to 50 range. He dropped an elective class in the 2nd semester and informed every admissions office that accepted communications prior to making a decision about his applications.
None expressed concern and I don’t think it influenced the decisions as he got a good number of acceptances from these schools. He had 2 Top 20 schools that rejected him and I don’t think it mattered with them, either.
So the transparency is essential.
