Subject: RHPS — How is it?
Problem with RHES is it is basically all the low income apts on 16th street and East West Highway. It is a completely different vibe than the entire rest of the cluster and one that many felt they paid a premium to avoid. It is the group pulling down CCES, Silver Lake and BCCs test score. That said many parent don't want to send their kids during their formative years to that environment which is fair. Many join later when that peer group begins to get out numbers at later stages and doesn't define the environment, many of the really affluent parents never do public school because of it. Chevy Chase has the highest Private participation in the county

OP here. It’s interesting - there seem to be two of us who’ve each posted twice this year about RHPS.
In my case I’m asking because the responses I’ve seen are mostly from parents of kids that were there seemingly a while ago (pre-COVID experiences, under a different principal, larger class sizes) - and because most of my neighbors opt out of trying it. We had hoped to give it a try but are getting cold feet!
I’m a parent with kids at RHES, CCES, and SCMS. We have been happy, but I am not going to try to convince rich or UMC entitled DCUM posters to send their kids there. These are all public schools, and if you expect the school to cater to what your needs, it’s not going to go well. In our neighborhood, a lot of parents ope out and send their kids to private without even checking out RHES. That is fine by me — we have smaller and more diverse classes because of it, both of which are great for my kids. Many parents I know at the school fee the same way. I think that is why you are not getting traction despite repeatedly posting about the school. Go ahead and send your kid to private if you are afraid of a diverse focus school.

Because those zchrvy Chase families don’t want to go to school with low-I come kids or students of color. They don’t realize that those same kids go into CCES, which is very diverse.

We know feedback on CCES is generally very good, but we are hearing mixed feedback on RHPS.
Yes, I’m aware of past posts about this — but haven’t seen many responses since the school’s FARMS rate officially exceeded 35% and it became a Focus school this year.
People posted on 2 different threads about this over the past couple of weeks. Please check those rather than starting yet another thread.

I have worked at 3 ESs, and my kids attended a 4th. All of them have chaotic lunch and recess, because, it's all ES students getting out all the excess energy they've been holding in all day long.

Most parents have said despite lunch & recess feeling chaotic and wishing there were more adults supervising, they are still comfortable with their kids being there.
I’ve heard only good things about teacher quality (with one exception, and that fam is applying to privates now), the principal, and the after care program.
