+1 you can open house both schools if you really want to learn all the minor differences. if you are closer to cooper or no spanish is a dealbreaker, then maybe list cooper first. otherwise list 2nd street 1 cooper 2 and spend your time planning out your other options.

However, some people do get in. In my world, 1/3 kids who lotteried did get in. So people need to plan for that chance.

If 1/3 of the people you know who lotteries for Latin got in, that is either a total fluke OR (and more likely) some of them already had kids at the school. Having an older sibling attending Latin almost guarantees you a spot at the school. If you don't have an older sibling attending, your odds are very slim.

In OP's case. I would rank 2nd street higher because the schools are equidistant and the 2nd street physical plant is better at the moment. And then I wouldn't think about it much because if you are lucky enough to get a high enough lottery draw to get into either campus, you will breathe a massive sigh of relief and be happy, and because in that situation, neither school is really a "wrong" choice.

Also if language availability or specific after school activities/clubs are important to you, just contact the school and ask what is available on each campus. Or go to an open house and ask there. Those are better solutions than asking here if the website isn't answering your questions.

Well, yes. But if I'm going to have a kid there for 8 years, plus a younger sibling, then I want to make the right call. Low probability but high impact.

That will change with time. We know several Brookland families that had Cooper over 2nd Street. Might become the preferred option with CH families for the slightly shorter commute.

We are at Cooper and listed it first because of the easy commute. We know some other families that did the same.

+1, and I think it's likely even lower than that most years for kids with no sibling attending, if there are a lot of siblings lotterying for 5th that year. That was true for Cooper last year, I think, which surprised some who had assumed it would be an easier admit than 2nd.

I believe Cooper has Spanish and Arabic. They pet toad a third as the upper grades fill out.

Thanks! I wonder if Cooper will have more languages in the future...

Well yes, but I'm trying to figure out what my preference is, and what factors I'm unaware of. I was surprised how similar the commute times are.

Hi everyone,

I'm pondering how to rank Latin 2nd St campus vs Latin Cooper, for 5th grade. It's odd how the website isn't very clear about what's offered at which campus. I understand the outdoor space and sports facilities are better at 2nd St., and Cooper may be a little easier to get into. Can anyone else point out any specific differences?

For a bus/metro commute from Bloomingdale, it looks like the commute is about 35-50 minutes no matter which campus it is.

TIA!
