240k fully in office assuming commute is less than an hour. More than an hour and it would harder to choose. Don't have kids though.

Life is short. Take the livable wage plus the extra time!

$120k for me and I would invest 50% of it.
Commute and long hours at work are my biggest regrets.

Id take the 240k, as much as I’d hate it. I have a $148k two days in office hybrid job that is frustrating in many ways (org politics), but also the perfect mom job in terms of flexibility and good benefits. I’m not looking for that next higher paying job for that reason.

If the $120K allows living anywhere in the U.S., and the $240K is high COL (like SF, NY, DC), then I'd take the $120K.

This is an issue because sometimes companies will say full remote, but the compensation still varies depending on where your home is.

Id choose a mix so that one spouse has each.

This was actually what dh and I decided. I leaned out, became a fed and took a lower salary. In return I had 3/4 telework days and a super short 7 min commute. Dh chose 100% in office with no ability to telework. It was great while it lasted because I could be there when the kids needed picked up unexpectedly (taking leave).

Assuming that the commute isn't insane(less than 45min one way on average) then it's $240k, in office all the way, all day. But if the commute is crazy long then the calculation get trickier...

The salary of $240,000 has additional benefits of higher 401k contributions and maximum social security payment at retirement.

The lower salary might save childcare costs and the additional commute to the daycare or school.

In the office, if my salary matters to my QOL at all.
