My 6th son hangs out with his friends physically several times a week. Basketball court, throwing the football around, bumming around town, hanging out at each other's houses playing videogames and watching movies.

What does bumming around town look like for a 12 year old?

I am not this poster but if you have middle school kid in walkable area they wander around with their friends. Might pick up a soda along the way, stop at a park, go to the library, pit stop in someone's back yard, etc. My son did this a lot in middle school.

In 6th grade my son hung out at friends homes. Some of the kids, boys and girls, went to the near by strip mall and hung out. DS doesn’t see the point in that but it was an option. There was some games online with friends but mainly hanging out in person. I see kids in that age range outside playing basketball or football and out on bikes.

My 6th grader does no virtual hanging out. All social things are in person. He doesn't have a phone or online video games. His friend group is probably 50/50 on those who do vs dont.

My 6th grade girl invites friends over. Sometimes they go to see a movie or I let them hang at Starbucks or the ice cream shop.

Mine has friends over sometimes, or in the summer they hang out at the neighborhood pool. A lot of times right now they play games online together. I wish they could do more in person but that involves hosting or driving them somewhere and parents don’t always have time.

I had friends in Sunday school, but none at my school. We were not wealthy, and did not live in a wealthy part of that Metro area. This was outside DC metro.

Well they used to hang out in the neighborhood with friends and sometimes go out the movies or something, but now I'm sure it's all online

Mine walks home with friends every day after school and then maybe once a week spends longer at a friend's house or at a park or has kids to our house.

Sees friends through sports, birthday parties, and get togethers most weekends.

Minimal time online with friends. Does not have a phone though. She has a watch so texts but hard to do a lot of texting.

My 6th grader hangs out with friends in real life maybe once a week. He does not do any online hanging out, other than a a little bit of texting or occasionally talking on FaceTime.

I have a 6th grade boy and his group (6-8 kids) strongly prefers in person, they are always asking parents to host them for board games, movies, just hanging out.
