Reserve a spot in a public park. Not sure where you are, but if in Arlington there is a nice covered space with picnic tables at Lubber Run down by the creek. At that price point, you will need to do the food yourself; there are grills at the Lubber Run place. There is a Gazebo you can reserve at the park next to the library in McLean. Places like that.

For our ‘23 son we had about 40 people and spent around $1300. It was in our backyard. We had his favorite food vendor from our local farmers market cater (they set up in our yard and people went up and ordered and it was cooked on demand) which is why it was so expensive

Our ‘26 son doesn’t want a party.

I wish I had a big backyard. We are having about 80 people and will probably have to spend about $1800

He was a very hot friend of my friend's older brother, he played minor football (? I don't know what it's called) in Australia. No major regrets. We gave DC the choice of a party with a handful of friends, their parents and some family friends (no extended family nearby) or $500 which is roughly what we would spend on the backyard bbq type party. They opted for the cash.

I’m in the Midwest and we have them in our garages or rent a “hall” or church basement.

I have had 2 kids that have graduated and have attended many grad parties. All have been home/back yard parties.

This. About 15 family members (nuclear plus grandparents, aunts, uncles and a few cousins), and then drop in for friends and their families. The closest friends plan the parties around each other, and everyone else it's drop in. Your own kid will spend the entire week going from party to party.

The Asians seem to have big elaborate grad parties.

Why have a party? Aren't all the graduates doing something with their own families? Do explain dmv grad party expectations and etiquette
