The good, based on my kid’s experience and other kids’ experiences- diverse, Atlanta has lots of opportunity, not too big or too small, good weather, strong programs in pre-med and business and nursing. Healthy endowment. Carter Center.

The bad- some clubs are competitive, not much school spirit, sports teams don’t get as much recognition as they could or should for their accomplishments (Emory won the Director’s Cup for 2024-2025). Has the reputation of being a “fall back” school for kids who didn’t get into higher ranked schools.

Ranks much lower, the thread is about Emory, and their premed acceptance rate is separated by MD and DO. Other schools dont separate. Emory had over 400 apps to med school,

From the families I know with students who went there is last 6-10 years, kids from west and north east cities like it less than kids from South and DC.

Emory is solid across the board. Having been there in 1980s, and having a child there now, it seems to have eased off its cut-throat competitive side that at times was suffocating. It is, however, not easy and if you don’t like work, are not social, and know there is more to life than studying the school is not for you. My left eye still twitches when I see Atwood.

Older son had an amazing Emory experience. Dual Business and humanities major. Great opportunities, top IB summer internships that led to full time job. Great friends and loved his classes and profs. I will say that out kid is naturally smart and very self driven. Kind of kid who excels anywhere. Got a full merit ride. His peers were a mix of super smart driven kids and some fun loving boys who are now lifelong friends. Had a lovely girlfriend and socialized with his sports team friends. 5 years out he is far more successful than his parents. Lol. Will also add emory accepts a ton of ap credit. So kid coukd have graduated veryvearly- but was having too mych fun to do so. Unlike dd at an ivy that takes virtually no ap.

DC is a pre-med freshman coming from DCPS and is generally happy. Feels a bit isolated from city life, as the school isn't downtown. Hardworking crowd w/o a ton of partying. I am full pay and it is expensive.

My kid is there now, very happy! It's a great school with lots of happy kids. Heavy pre med and business, but strong programs in the humanities/arts as well. Diverse. Safe. Good weather. Expensive, but also has generous aid. It's kind of a unicorn.

went there long time ago. pros: great education across all majors, opens doors (have gotten interviews, I believe, because of reputation.) cons: pre-professional students when there and attitude - like pre-law and pre-med, pre-something (if you're more of an artsy type, might feel off) even though they have attracted very strong English/Cr Writing faculty over the years, not much school spirit.

Some of the finest physicians in Atlanta--super smart and very dedicated to their patients and profession-- went to medical school at Emory. It's an excellent school!!
