What are you hoping for out of a diagnosis? Coaching? Meds?

Op here - yeah thanks! Ive done a lot of reading on this and believe my symptoms align but the reasoning of a psychiatrist i talked to for not thinking its adhd was that I couldnt specify a diagnosis or issues before i turned 12. For those who did a full neurosych - did that lead to further insights regardless of the 12 piece?

There is a lot of wariness and judgement in the medical community about adult ADHD diagnoses. This may not be universal, but my primary care and a psychiatrist pretty much rejected my diagnosis and treated me as drug seeking until I got more comprehensive testing done.

FWIW, I went to Chesapeake ADHD.

The benefit of a full evaluation is that you can then learn about specific areas where you have "deficits" - inhibition, working memory, emotional regulation, task initiation, etc. - and get coaching on those. From there you can get. referral to a psychiatrist if interested in meds. I don't use meds (past history of self medication due to ADHD), so it was helpful for me to know specifics.

I got diagnosed by a psychiatrist who also prescribed me medication.

Full neuropsychological would be interesting and if I had money to waste I would do it, but I don't so I haven't.

You do not need a full neuropsychological to be diagnosed with ADHD.

CAAT is where I take my kid. They also see adults. Pricey but worth the cost of a full neuropsych IMO. And I’ve liked everyone I’ve met there.

Pretty sure i have undiagnosed adhd and looking for recs for adult neurosych testing
