We just went to one. 3 hour window on the invitation. We went 20 minutes after start and left about 15 minutes before end. People were still there when we left.
We took a small orchid plant since I don't know them well enough to know what they drink. And I know she loves flowers.

I’d go after the first hour and stay for a couple of hours. If you’re having a great time and don’t want to leave, then stay extra.
Buy a bottle of pinot noir. The clerk at the wine store can advise you, or else Google.

Op here. Thanks. I don't know the host all that well. They are a friend of a friend and I have only socialized with them a few times- and mostly in a group setting. When we have been together, the host has talked about wine so I know they drink but I don't know a lot more about them. I have never met their spouse. I know they have 3 dogs!

You can stay for four hours or 20 minutes. Arrive whenever you want, and leave whenever you want within the timeframe of the party. Bring a bottle of champagne.

15 minutes after the listed start time tends to be good to arrive. Gives the host a few extra minutes but let's them no that they don't need to worry about nobody showing up. You can offer to lend a hand if you're the first people there.
For leaving, if you're free and having fun and it's pretty casual, stay as long as you wish. If it seems more like it's set up for shifts you can leave about halfway.

If you don’t know them super well I wouldn’t arrive too early or stay too late. Maybe plan on a couple hours in the middle of the window. If it’s a best friend, then anything goes.

My family and I are en route to a drop in party right now! They start at noon, have the dinner at six, and from experience hang out well into the night. We have three kids and don’t plan to stay for the seated dinner, but will go, have some heavy hors d’oevres and wine, and leave around 5. That’s the right amount of time for us, but I understand some people stay for the whole time. The hosts mean it when they say people are welcome. Hopefully the same for your hosts!
