SEAP is a CIVILIAN *summer* internship at a Navy STEM site. Local example is NSWC at Carderock, which a civil service STEM site.

It is NOT uniformed. SEAP interns are not in the Navy, cannot be deployed, and are forbidden from having weapons at work.

These are 16 year old kids people, trump will be gone and we will most likely have a Democrat president (if that’s what you prefer) by the time they are sophomores. If which party is in power is how you encourage your kids to base decisions on their future you are foolish.

Plus how many of your livelihoods are based on somehow contracting with or supporting the defense or surveillance states? This is dc, get off your high horses. It’s not like you’re living off the grid in a commune in Northern California.

The Trump admin has cut so many summer/internship/scholarship programs I'm just happy to see this has survived.

We're missing our Stokes and CIA college kids at work. Internships are a useful pipeline for most industries, even the US government.

I wouldn't worry about it being a reflection of the kid. These are competitive programs, will be good for college app, and will drop off kid's resume by freshman or sophomore year of college. In the meantime, they have been fairly robust and informative experiences in the past. I'd encourage it.

I didn't know what this was and had to Google it. It looks like it's a funded summer program for HS students focusing on STEM? And that they receive a stipend? It sounds like a good deal, if your kid is interested, and no, I wouldn't think about a Trump stigma associated with it. The Navy was there before Trump and will be there after.

My kid has applied to this program. He doesn’t know if he is in yet. He is otherwise very liberal and a little worried about being associated with the Navy during Trump.

Any thoughts?
