Don’t know what top 10 means, but WASP-B is as competitive ED as the non-HYP ivies…always go down a notch for ED2, and Bowdoin is not down a notch…

If it’s your child’s first choice, apply ED2. We know two freshmen (non-athletes, full pay from private schools) who were deferred from other schools ED1 and admitted to Bowdoin ED2 last cycle. Great school and community.

I would ED2 for sure IF it is his first choice. Even if deferred until spring, the fact that he had ED’d will be noted. It signals he’s a very likely yield which might give a little boost if he lands in the RD pool.

A lot of NESCAC football players are asked to go ED 2. Coaches wait until the end of the fall season before making offers to some kids. Then they give them until the ED2 deadline to decide. That might be the case for other fall sports too. Top recruits might get offers early and go ED 1, but for kids where the coaches feel they need to see more video etc, they will wait for the seasons to end. Also fall athletes often can’t get to schools to visit until after the season ends so they can’t really apply until ED 2.

There are very few stats that distinguish ED1 and ED2. But the presumption is that most acceptances come in the ED1 round. No harm in applying but don't presume the odds are especially high - and that goes for all schools, not just Bowdoin.

What happened with your kid’s ED1?

Athletes typically do ED 1; those rejected from their first choice school apply ED 2.

note that some slacs are also potentially spreading out their recruited athletes between ED1, ED2, and sometimes even RD.

yes but there are fewer spots.

and there are some recruited athletes who did not get into their 1st choices who then go to bowdoin as a recruited athlete in ED2.

I'd still do it if it's the 1st choice out of all remaining schools!
