We have a team from Annandale that is killing everyone, they should have been up at D1. No way they are a D2 team.

Agree re the Annandale team. But, to be fair, that team is also mostly 4th graders. So understandable why they are in D2. They should absolutely move up however.

FWIW, it appears that OP's child's team was moved down from D1 to D2 (assuming it is Girls 5th)

Does your child play in a school team (some start at 5th grade)? That might be a more evenly matched option.

Its FCYBL, almost all the teams are in Fairfax. The schools teams don't start until 9th grade.

Find a new team next season. Losing is a good experience. "You have to lose to win”.

Athletes should learn how to lose. They want to be able to compete and learn the challenge of fighting through adversity and figuring out how to win.

At least the kids that are losing will build character and learn....what are the D1 kids possibly getting out of that

My kid played FCYBL last year and there was a team we played two (if not three) times and it was hard to watch. This is going to sound terrible (and I mean it in a sincere way, I'm not making fun of the players), but there was maybe one good kid on their team and the rest were not good players. You could see the frustration in the kids and the coach.

Our coach definitely changed the game strategy and we stopped scoring altogether. Yes, he was worried about the point difference but it was pretty obvious it was a mismatch. I would hope a contentious coach would, in the name of good sportsmanship, recognize this and change the gameplay.

Hopefully you can get moved down, but maybe start turning your kid's focus to specific skills, or dribbling - something positive to take away from the game experience?

The worst is if you stay in d1 they will run the clock on all your games all season which takes away play time and makes it seem like a total waste of time.

Your coach should have the team moved down. Or if you're in D2, winning coach should be moved up. There are too many coaches that game the system.

I can see losing by 10 but 30+ points, we might as well call the game at the half.

They will usually adjust the divisions at the Christmas break. So if you're getting that beat up in D1, definitely should have your coach move them down to D2.

Only for 5th grade. If 6th or above will only do if coach makes enough noise about it. Also, when I coached in that league, you were suspended for one game if you won by more than 30+ points. do they not have that rule any longer?

I think the rule is 40 points.

Your coach can ask for your team to move down to D2. He should do that ASAP.
