No, I wouldn't say anything if they fit, and just wear them. If they don't fit, then I would just explain. If they included a gift receipt, the purchaser won't be notified of the return and you can buy the ones you want.

An older cousin sent DD Veja campos from Amazon. A very generous gift — she noticed DD loved her existing pair and that they had gotten very old. But I just opened the box, and I’m pretty sure they are knock-offs.

The shoes are pretty convincing dupes — stitching isn’t bad, lettering and soles well done, but they smell heavily of chemicals, and there’s no serial number anywhere. Bought from a high volume seller of random branded bags, jewelry, shoes, etc. No storefront.

I feel bad bc the cousin was so excited to have found them on Amazon for $25 off. But maybe that’s another clue.

Would you tell cousin? Just say thanks and keep them, then donate? Make a polite excuse, like “they’re too narrow”? I hate to think of her wasting her money… but on the other hand it feels so harsh to say “you bought fake ones” when her intentions were so good.
