Our tutor is 175 for 45 minutes. I’m definitely not giving the cost of a session.

What subject(s)? Sounds like you are overpaying, unless this is a very niche or special case...

Same. I usually brought a drink with me to tutor from Panera so they gave me a $25 Panera gift card. I was very happy.

I tutor after school and I never expect a holiday gift. The families are paying me each week my negotiated fee and nothing else is expected.

No. It is so expensive and often not even helpful.

I used to do a ton of tutoring, and I rarely received holiday gifts. I did not expect them and don't think you should feel any pressure. Tutoring is expensive as it is, and for me (I am a teacher) it was more a way to make extra money fast and not some kind of great, altruistic service I was providing. Sometimes I received gifts upon finishing with a student, and I have remained in touch (holiday cards and such) with several tutoring families, but there was no regular practice of gifting.

This never occurred to me. We pay a lot and it all goes to her as it’s not through an agency or anything.

This is our first year with a tutor and it never occurred to me that I might need to do this. But now right when it's the last minute it has popped into my head. Please tell me whether you give a tip/gift or do not.
