One committed to an Ivy for a sport. They insisted that meant nothing for his twin’s chances. We believed them but she didn’t and wanted to try ED and thankfully she was accepted, also.

Identical or fraternal? Seems like many of the identical twins I know coordinate so they can go to the same school, so I was just wondering. Thanks.

Neither of my twins got into their ED choices. I told them it was a lottery and glad they put themselves out there. They both had acceptances are schools that they had applied EA. Now they need to do several more applications for RD. I think your attitude helps here. Saw Lisa Damour on a video where she said the parents should not be more excited or more disappointed than the kid. Tell them they will get into the right school for them. Don't let them ED to a school they have not visited.

Another twin mom here. One twin was deferred at their ED school and took it hard, as the kid shot for the "easier to get into" school in order to be finished with the process. The other twin will be hearing from their very selective college today. DH and I are not sleeping much and worried for both kids. They are both expecting to have to write dozens of additional supplemental essays over the break.

I have twins in this cycle and can commiserate with the extra challenges of this dynamic. One’s ED school was released a week before the other’s so while we celebrated his acceptance it also added to our nerves about the other one’s results, my DH and I weren’t sleeping much for a couple days before. Both ended up getting a spot but I get how tricky it could have been. I’ve been texting with a couple other twin moms because we’re all feeling this.

I am a twin. My twin and I attended different universities. Twin was rejected by top school and never has gotten over it tbh (we are in 30s now). They could have probably attended their top school for a grad program, but the rejection was too real for them.

We both ended up attending universities that were not the right fit for either of us. I was pushed into mine for a religion aspect. We were raised Catholic and I got into a few other schools that would have been a better “fit” but they weren’t as highly ranked as the Jesuit school I attended. I basically was told I was on my own if I didn’t attend. My twin also attended at the next best school they got into which again wasn’t the right choice. Don’t do that to your kid.

Life is full of rejection. Maybe take the kid who didn’t get in to view the other schools again - weekends when students are actually there not over winter break. So they can get a better understanding and see the school not when admissions is trying to “sell” it. Attend an athletic event, go to the university museum, sign up for a talk. Talk to people in the program or degree.

Sadly one who really wanted a school was rejected and while the other, who doesn’t want to attend was accepted.

It sounds like the one twin wasn’t really a great candidate for ED (in terms of preference for a school, not in terms of strength of application). Refocus on the other schools he’s interested in.

There was quite a long thread about twins recently on here - last week or the week before only. I would search for that as it may be relevant to this.

For what it's worth, I have B/G and they are at the same college. Different majors, ECs and social groups.

I have twins, but they're too young to apply this year (underclassmen). Did your twins apply to any of the same schools?

Anyone here that has twins? How has acceptances unfolded for them? One of mine got into his ED choice and the other was deferred (which he takes as a rejection). I honestly think the one who was deferred is for the best (he had trouble making up his mind between 3 very different schools and only chose the ED the night before) and he’s the one that didn’t really lean into trying hard until this year and is still figuring out who he is (entirely normal for a teen IMO). But still it hurts my heart a bit that he is dealing with a “rejection” while his twin is over the moon happy (and he totally deserves it - he’s worked very hard both academically and EC - wise). They love and support each other and I’m not sure I have a question per se but
just looking for anyone who can relate. That’s why I love DCUM - I know you are it there!
