We went to InLaws for Christmas most years. They loved arriving at church showing-off their grandchildren - I felt it was the gift they wanted most. DH went. I enjoyed a peaceful, joyous evening not at church.

I’m Jewish and he’s catholic. We exchange gifts on NYE. It’s our tradition and it works for us.

We each get ourself a gift - and we are both happy with what we receive. It took us 20 years to figure this out.

I am Christian and DH is atheist (born Muslim). We just get the kids gifts for Christmas and call it a day- we are at the point in our lives where we don’t need anything more than what we have right now. Birthdays we do experiences for each other in lieu of gifts.

I give DH Hanukah gifts.
I also have secular Christmas decorations in the house.

DH is Christian, I am Hindu. Different religions, different race, different culture. We both practice whatever we want to practice, and we respect each other's beliefs. Kids are exposed to both religions and we lean more towards celebrating the humanitarian, spiritual, ecological aspects of religion.

Being in this country, it is would be hard not to participate in the secular aspects of Christmas. And I love the holiday season for this. The tree, presents, lights, holiday parties, dinner with family etc...and we also attend the mass with the rest of the family. I love this season and I feel the same spirituality, reverence and peace in a church as I feel in a temple.

DH participates in all rituals and secular aspects of our major religious observances...Diwali, Holi, Rakhi, Janmashtami, Shivratri, Navratri etc. He loves going to the temples too (but I think a big reason for him is the temple food).

Do you exchange gifts? Do you give a gift but don't expect one back? Do you do anything holiday-related at this time of year?
