however many on DCUM will say that it's worth it. I think it depends how much money you have saved for college.

OP. Thanks, we get it that Michigan has a lot of plusses and is a great T-20 public, but the OOS COA is steep, even compared to other T-20 privates. Eldest DC applied EA last cycle and got in. We qualify for some need aid in-state (Maryland), but Michigan not offering any aid to OOS, period. They did offer to fly in DC for 3 days of getting to know UM.

NP. I don’t get it. Why did you let your kid apply then?

My kid loved Michigan, but I said no due to the cost & no merit.

Everyone is suddenly acting so helpless and delusional around college admissions! As if people are forcing you to apply!

As a Michigan alum, I can confidently say no. If in Virginia, obviously pursue UVA and William & Mary.

For us, absolutely yes. The toughest aspect was navigating course selection freshman year, but she figured it out and in the end got great classes. She goes to office hours and knows and likes all of her professors. She has close and supportive friends, and they have a lot of fun together while also working quite hard. For her, it’s been a terrific academic and social fit, and she loves the school spirit and camaraderie.

OP, this is a question you ask before you apply ED not after. Michigan does not give financial aid OOS.

I wouldn’t pay that much for any school.

OP, were you surprised that you didn't get aid? Was the Net Price Calculator not accurate for you??

I say no but clearly people pay it. It’s also dark and cold there.

Odd question in that OP has not shared anything about major or career objective.

Normally, I would say yes.

Given this economy and unemployment rising, absolutely not.

The economy and unemployment by the time they graduate will be nonexistent.

Honestly no. If they can get into UM, could probably get into UVA/W&M/VT/UMD etc for much less cost and an equal educational opportunity.
