We just had severe chapped lips with a virus, -likely hand, foot, mouth. Some viruses affect the lips. When the virus passes then the lips heal.

Our kid had really bad chapped lips earlier this year and Vaseline applied regularly did the trick. I think she had been sick, but it probably wasn't that bad because she never got a fever and hid that she felt sick because she didn't want to miss a school activity.

My daughter was on Accutane and one possible side effect is very dry, chapped lips. My daughter's chapped dry lips were just awful and on a completely other level of bad. Her dermatologist told us to use Dr. Dan's Cortibalm and it literally was like magic. I highly recommend this product.

Make sure he’s very hydrated.

Make an exfoliating scrub with olive oil and white sugar (brown sugar can be coarse). Tell him to stand over a sink and rub some gently on his lips. He can lick the sugar a little but after exfoliation he has to dry them with a towel. Then make sure he’s using aquaphor and not licking his lips.

The Vaseline is the best bet, see how he looks in the morning. If he gets worse take him back to the doctor, of course.

My son was diagnosed with strep throat last Thursday. We kept him home all weekend and today was his first day back at school.

He has burts bees chapstick that he has used before but every since he was diagnosed with strep his lips have been severely chapped. I can't exfoliate them, I have Vaseline that I tried tonight but worried that these are fever blisters. Any thoughts? Ideas? Advice?
