My nephew was a freshman there an transferred out a few years back.
It's perfect for the majors their child is interested in and there's a ton of writing communities everywhere in the Claremont Colleges. If no on Claremont McKenna, they should take off Pomona.
Also, there's no frats.

Kenyon: ED1 here. Bullseye fit!
If you want to only do RD, consider adding Vassar. Stunning campus (probably the prettiest and 1000 acres), very literary vibe, excellent english, philosophy and poli sci.

Since Amherst and Pomona are reaches for everyone (they're well known and just have too few spots to offer qualified students), I'd expand the list by considering adding:
Vassar - as a target, very strong academically, collaborative not competitive vibe.
Oberlin? - as a likely
Grinnell?
I would also consider EDing to Kenyon. It sounds like it's your DS's very clear, 1st choice and I agree it would be a great fit!

Sounds like he’ll get in ED 1 or 2, but Vassar, Carleton, Oberlin and Bowdoin might be worth a look.

Reed is a grind (and double-majoring is impractical). You have a good list. ED1 Kenyon — and that should do it — ED2 Wes. Consider Grinnell, maybe even Holy Cross.
