Ask his parents, how do we know?

Best option: why do you care what people name their own kids? Is it any of your business whatsoever?

I am trying to understand why a religious family, who surely must be aware of this name's connotations, would name their child this. It seems like a very strange choice, but maybe I am missing something. Thoughts...?

They probably just knew it was a biblical name, ergo it must be good.

I could see that for a merely casually Christian family, but they're devout and actually go to church weekly and presumably have read the Bible... so they must know who Cain was in the Bible?

We have very religious acquaintances who named their gold retriever Jezebel. I've never understood it.

That's hilarious actually! Lots of dogs get stripper names too like Lola and Trixie. It's funny.

Well, at a Christian school surely his classmates will eventually make the connection. Is this "a boy named Sue" situation?

God seemed a little mean to young Cain. I think Cain’s story might have been more positive with some more positive feedback about his offering from Gad.

We know a family that named their son Cain, spelled just like the first murderer in the Bible. Anyway, it wouldn't be that weird except this family is very devout: they go to church, send little Cain to a Christian school, etc.
