Subject: Who “married up” in your relationship?
I met my spouse in college so it feels like we more helped each other up than anything else.

In our 50's. Cumulatively, we are at the same level, equal in most, I'm up in few and he in other few but overall same league.

I married up socially. I am from a blue collar background. My parents did eventually graduate college doing part time / evening programs after I was born, but I am the first generation to go to college full time. My husband’s grandparents are college graduates. His mom was an editor at a major publisher, dad was a college professor, chair of the department.
He married up financially, though. He’s been underemployed pretty much all the time we’ve been married, after he got his PhD. I am making multiples of what he does. I’ll probably get a bigger inheritance too - my parents were very smart (and somewhat lucky) with real estate.

From Anne Lamott: "A good marriage is where both people feel like they're getting the better end of the deal."
