All schools very competitive for entry. I'd do ED if they love one of them. Heard Emory very hard for regular entry and can be waitlist heavy for regular entry. Adding in case this helps: went to Emory long time ago. Pros: great education; literally has opened doors (interviews, people, etc.) Cons: quite pre-professional; if child more artsy, not as much a fit. Not much school spirit or wasn't then. Regarding Tufts - students/alumni don't seem the warmest/friendliest.

Rice is a very hard admit for anyone. Would not feel bad about that result.

Vandy is even worse though. Would not ED2 there.

For ED2, I would do WashU. Provided, of course, the kid really likes the school. Lots of good things about WashU.

And I'd save Vanderbilt, Emory, Georgetown and Tufts for RD and see what happens.

Agreed that Vandy RD is insanely hard. It's like a 3% admission rate. My DC got into 2 Ivies but rejected to Vanderbilt. Knows a bunch of other kids like this. Emory also really hard RD.

Tufts, G-town, WashU were totally possible RD from our private for a kid with strong grades.

What's Rice and Georgetown in common? Georgetown seems an odd ball in the mix.

Vandy RD more difficult than ivies. It's not meaningful to apply RD there. ED2 Vandy if your first choice school.

Is your kid leaning toward a particular major?

Does your kid like one of those schools more than the others?
