Who is monitoring this nonsense? It takes 5-6 weeks for them to even start working and no reputable doctor would prescribe SSRIs like this.

I can't speak to every SSRI, but I can speak to my experience with Lexapro -- it made a DRAMATIC difference in one week. Your statement is not accurate across all SSRIs or all patients.

I've been on Citalopram since 2019 and I have no plans to go off. I did 5-8 years of therapy and self-help books, meditation, etc. to get my anxiety under control and nothing was helping. After two months of being on an SSRI, I've been a different person.

I have been on an SSRI since 2004 and will likely be on them forever. I'm fine with that.

I try to minimize my time on them and reduce the withdrawal so I try to stay on for 5-6 weeks.

I have been in therapy on and off throughout.

I never have had trouble weaning. I have trouble starting (lots of horrible symptoms for 2 weeks), but I can just stop and have no issues.

You definitely need to wean off an SSRI, they are a B to come off of. Took me months of feeling like I had the flu. They say it's not withdrawl, but dependence. Not sure it makes a difference.

Depends on the person and situation. If it’s for a one-time depression or stressful event that’s fully resolved, it can be as little as six months. But if you’re someone who just “runs anxious” and haven’t been able to pick up enough tools in therapy to manage it, you might be best off taking it your whole life. The underlying problem is still there when you stop the meds, unless something has happened to fix it since you started them.

Really? My best friend is going on 5 years now. And she's at the max dose for Zoloft. Still symptomatic, but she's the kind to always see the glass half empty no matter what's going on in her life, so...?

Are these supposed to be weaned off? I read somewhere that people should try to wean off SSRI for deprivation after a few years. Is it the same?

Yes yes I’ll ask my doctor but they’re not available right now
