Not true. My DH's nephew was rejected a few years ago. I have no idea what his gpa was, but he's a mess and I'd be surprised if it was above a 2.0 and not shocked if it was below.

DS is a freshman there now. GPA was 3.1 and applied test optional. No honors or AP classes. ADHD, anxiety and autism spectrum. He had some decent activities and a job in high school. He applied for the first deadline and was accepted fairly quickly.

They have really good disability services and so far he is doing well.

GMU would be a good fit for her for many reasons (accommodations, in state, close to home etc.) We are trying to see where she needs to be to get in. Probably TO since she is not a good test taker. Around 3.0 UwGPA. She is a sophomore and had a rough year, but hopefully she can improve her grades. If you have a child accepted to GMU last few years, do you mind sharing stats? TIA

Since she is in sophomore year, you still have a year to catch up. You (parents and family members) probably need to closely SUPPORT (not tiger parenting) her, in multiple aspects, besides academics; study skills & time management and executive functioning skills. Check with school counsellor if your DD school participates in GMU direct admission program (if GMU is target by then). Also make sure she gets good support from close friends & families. Many or most of the parents here were not top of the tier students when they were young, but leading great life now. The future is only going to be brighter not bleak. Don't need to be overly concerned about the future of the kids. It is all about the journey not the destination.

Not cool, PP, in response to an anxious parent with an SN child.

Pp, the correct answer is to look at SCHEV to where your child fits. SCHEV tells us those entering GMU last fall had a 1360 at the 75th percentile; a 1260 at the median; and a 1180 at the 25th percentile. The incoming class reports ACT scores of 31/28/25 respectively and weighted GPA of 3.99 at the 75th percentile. 3.70 at the median and 3.42 at the bottom 25th percentile. Knowing this, now look at your own High School’s Naviance and/or SCOIR to figure out how kids with your own child’s predicted record did with admissions. If you can’t figure that out make an appointment with your high school counselor to review. Good luck.

My own SN kid (ASD/ADHD/Anxiety/depression) had great difficulty with the transition to GMU (transitions are tough for Aspies) and soon found that she could not manage a full load so, with help of disability services, cut back, which meant it took her six years to graduate. That’s no criticism of GMU - she would have struggled anywhere else. Good luck.

My SN child was deferred in EA for 1st semester grades, then waitlisted in spring and finally rejected with a 3.3, TO, and proposed STEM major. I think the school really wanted to accept them but kid’s senior year performance didn’t support an admit. Child was happy to go to another college that didn’t look as hard at senior grades.

My DS did the direct admit last year to Engineering with a 3.6 and 1220 SAT which he submitted. At orientation, they mentioned that the average GPA of admitted applicants was inching upwards each year of the 2020's decade. Given the high stats kids that are getting rejected from UVA/VT/W&M, that tracks. I think 3.8 was the average they said they expected for this year's admit. But it's a big school with room for a large range of stats.

DS applied last year - also with ADHD/Dyslexia/Anxiety - had a 504 in HS and gets accommodations in college.

UW - 3.7 (4.0 weighted)
test optional
fine ECs (NHS, captain is a varsity sport, lettered all 4 years, 4 years of work experience)

Got in and got 18k in merit (OOS.) He chose to go elsewhere.

My son was accepted with a similar profile. However, his school is one that has the guaranteed admission agreement with GMU, so it was never in doubt, given that his GPA exceeded the threshold.

DD is a B student with an IEP for ADHD and anxiety. GMU would be a good fit for her for many reasons (accommodations, in state, close to home etc) We are trying to see where she needs to be to get in. Probably TO since she is not a good test taker. Around 3.0 UwGPA. She is a sophomore and had a rough year, but hopefully she can improve her grades. If you have a child accepted to GMU last few years, do you mind sharing stats? TIA
