You could also introduce some other fish to add some interest in the tank as well.
How much salt is being used in the water? I think if it's not on a regular basis and for specific treatment only you should be ok adding some hardier live plants to the tank as well.
Goldfish are dirty fish who need frequent, weekly 1/3 water changes. I would not recommend other fish in a 20 gallon tank with Goldfish. Goldfish like colder water and most tropical fish at the pet stores like warmer water and the water parameters are different.
They won’t play with toys or a ball, if you are thinking that but, live plants are very good and will help keep your water clean. You can get low light plants that are no maintenance like Amazon swords.
