Earrings are gauge sized. A standard earring is 20g

Thank you all and OP for asking. I have a pricey pair I never wear. It never occurred to me to have the post replaced.

OMG I'm glad it's not just me. I have a beautiful pair given to me by someone close and I want to wear them, but they are difficult to get in and make one ear lobe hurt if I am able to force them in. Is there any way to get around this??

I bought an expensive pair of earrings and the posts were too thick. I tried to adjust but it wasn't happening. So I took then to a jeweler (maybe the original, but maybe not) and had them attach a new, standard post. Worked out great.

You can get them repierced larger.

I swear this is a perimenopause symptom that nobody talks about. I’ve had my ears pierced since I was a kid and have often got weeks or months without wearing earrings. I never have had an issue getting any size post into my ears. Now at 48 I have the hardest time getting earrings on and only the thinnest posts will work.

Yes, this is a thing! I asked for screw backs and then my DH got me exactly what I asked for and the posts were too thick. I tried to jam them in so I wouldn’t look ungrateful. They were so painful and oozed for days.

I had the posts changed to something thinner. These were just gold studs with a gemstone and the tiny jewel box repair people did it.

Otherwise I think you have to go to a piercing person. Maybe they can make the holes bigger responsibly. I pretty much only wear small studs so I am happy with the new posts.

I never wear earrings bigger than a quarter and nothing heavy. My earring holes are normal stud sized. And I've had them for 30+ years.

Yes very similar. The leverbacks I thought would be secure but since I can’t get them all the way into my holes they just tilt forward and are also painful.

This is actually something that I have wondered about for a few years. My husband bought me some beautiful earrings a few years ago and I simply cannot get them into my ears.

I think it just depends on what you normally wear. The post on my diamond studs is much thicker than on the tiny gold hoops I wear every day. When I put the diamonds in, it takes a day for things to feel comfortable.

Am I an anomaly? Spinoff on the what are you getting yourself for Christmas… I ordered some beautiful pearl leverback earrings because I want to look more like a grownup. And they arrived, gorgeous… but the posts are too thick for my ears. They’re like tiny little knives. I usually wear wires or studs. Do most people have bigger earring holes than me?
