Very top public’s would be middle tier in the ISL/WCAC. Definitely wouldn’t be able to compete with the top schools. Oakton was a fluke.

Regional finals/state final four VHSL 6A teams tend to lose to the upper tier of the ISL by 10 goals or so when they play. Only recent exception I'm aware of was Oakton beating SSSAS during their VA State title year. SSSAS beat Madison that same year by 10, and Madison beat Oakton twice in the District and Regional playoffs, so the Oakton win was definitely an outlier.

ISL lower tier = ISL A (+ bottom third of ISL AA). I have a kid in this tier and fewer than half of the starters (and no bench players) have recent club experience.

There are relatively few at the higher levels of the ISL/MIAA. At the lower tiers, often only a small handful play club (counting the seniors who played through the summer prior, but not counting anyone who stopped before 9th grade), and it shows.

IMO it is hard to be elite without playing club. The practice, coaching, and competition help develop a player.

You need to play club if you really want to be recruited to a D1 program. If you don’t have D1 aspirations, you’d be fine not playing for a club.

The majority play club and the ones that don't most likely did for a while before stopping. Players that only have played rec are few and far between and rarely make it past JV.

On some of these elite HS girls' teams, do all the players play club? Or do they have a few that don't play club?
