A student from our school was accepted to Princeton SCEA for the class of 2023. He went on to apply to Yale and Harvard. He was accepted to both and attends Harvard. No one from our school has been accepted to Princeton since. It’s selfish behavior that has possible ramifications for the whole school.

Agree, it’s so selfish. DC had a friend do this two years ago. Accepted REA to Stanford and applied RD to Harvard, Princeton and Penn. Accepted to all three in RD. Ended up going to Stanford.

Gosh, so selfish. As a parent I wouldn't support it. Presuming kid applied to their first choice, and would be thrilled to attend.

My DC was accepted REA Stanford a few years ago. I’m sure they must have wondered if they could get in elsewhere. But they knew they wouldn’t choose any other school over Stanford and didn’t think applying to other top schools (or just other schools at all) was the right thing to do.

can you explain that "type"? I couldn't pinpoint it when we visited, but there was something about the vibe that I didn't like.

Loser. Applications aren't fun. There are many better things to do with one's life. And it is potentially taking a spot from a classmate. Someone deserves a brown swirlie next time they are in the locker room.

The kids who are so fortunate to be accepted REA to HYPSM start feeling even more confident and want to “see” if they can get in to the other top schools. Often knowing that they wouldn’t end up choosing those schools anyway.

My kids had a friend who did this last year - applied to Harvard, Penn, Princeton and MIT after Stanford REA acceptance. He didn’t get in anywhere else.
